I spent fifty-four years in the field of aerospace engineering.I started as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and advanced through increasingly responsible positions at different organizations to become a senior manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Orlando, Florida.
I retired from there in 2001 as a program manager, having served as Director of Mechanical Engineering and in program management. After retirement, I continued to work as an aerospace consultant until 2016. I enjoyed every job that I held. However, especially memorable was the time that I spent in the 1970s working as a United States Army employee comingled with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) employees at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. I share those experiences with you in this memoir.
“Rarely does a researcher take the time to tell the personal side of his work experiences. Readers should be glad that Gene did so.”
