There is something in all of the world’s people that dislikes randomness. We want explanations for the seemingly unexplainable.

Most of all, we want to find ways to control what happens to us and those we love. Superstitions are one way by which we seek that goal. This book highlights some of the superstitions handed down through generations of commercial fishing families. The voices of these fishermen form part of the living history of fishermen and their families everywhere.
